A Legacy of Design
In 1999, three North Oak Cliff neighbors began to re-imagine the retail corridor adjacent to their neighborhood – the Fort Worth Avenue corridor. They did some research, developed a lot of ideas and publicly presented them at the first Fort Worth Avenue Summit in January of 2002. As support grew, the newly-formed Fort Worth Avenue Development Group worked with community and city leaders to establish PD 714, which was passed by the Dallas City Council in 2005.
Â
Previously zoned for industrial research, the corridor was now on its way to becoming a vibrant mix of retail, residential and commercial properties, as well as a bike- and pedestrian-friendly community. The progress has been astounding, with shops, restaurants, apartments, art studios, and so much more attracting residents and visitors to the area. With Harold Simmons Park now being developed at the Beckley/Commerce intersection, a new chapter of growth for the Fort Worth Avenue Corridor is soon to emerge.Â

Since our inception, Fort Worth Avenue Development Group has been a steadfast advocate for the architectural and civic health of Dallas' West Commerce/Fort Worth Avenue corridor. We believe that growth should be measured not just by expansion of commerce, but by the quality of the spaces created for our neighbors.
